FANTASIA BARRINO: The 911 Call

It turns out that [lastfm]FANTASIA BARRINO[/lastfm] did indeed try to commit suicide when she swallowed a bottle of aspirin in her North Carolina home on Monday night. That’s according to the 911 call. The caller . . . a male who was probably Fantasia’s manager, Brian Dickens . . . said Fantasia had, “taken a bottle of aspirin and she’s slowly losing consciousness.”

He also told the operator that Fantasia was in the shower, because her family had put her in there to try to keep her awake.

Fantasia was released from the hospital yesterday.

Her manager said, “She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans. She is more committed than ever to her daughter and her work because they are her heart, her soul and inspiration.”

Fantasia has a 9-year-old daughter named Zion. And here’s something worth mentioning: Zion’s 9th birthday was Sunday . . . one day before her mom tried to off herself, over a MAN. That would have made for a LIFETIME of horrendous birthdays for this child. Selfish

Hi- I’m not sure who added the comment in italics, but I was bothered by the last word that they left, “Selfish.” To those of us looking in from the outside, who don’t know all of the circumstances, her actions do appear selfish. And to a point, they are; however, there are many factors that can lead someone to the point of attempting suicide. Clinical depression, mental illness & yes, even the loss of a love. When someone is in that mental state to where they cannot function any longer, it is in someways out of their control. That being said, if something is out of your control, how can your actions be deemed selfish? I’m not justifying her situation and I can see the selfish aspects of it, but again as outsiders looking in, we don’t know the whole story, so it is unfair to judge. Especially with something so sensitive.
