When a life-like version of Tupac appeared at Coachella with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg last month, audience reaction was split as fans and artists weighed in on the deceased rapper’s “hologram.” Earlier this week, T.I. went a step further, outlining a vision for a possible future where holograms are for everyone.

The hologram discussion began after T.I. crashed a B.o.B interview at V-103/Atlanta on Wednesday (April 2).

“I thought it was technology that finally benefited us in a way that I can appreciate,” T.I. said on the Ryan Cameron show. “Usually they come up with stuff that I think is useless, that is stupid. Why would anybody want to know what you’re doing every second. What’s the purpose.”

T.I.’s comments drew a round of laughs at the station, but he apparently put some real thought into the future hologram business.

“I do think there may be a market in the future to buy a show in your house for you to duplicate the same thing I do on stage,” he said. “I’d do it across your living room floor as a hologram. I could be able to sell [it to you for] $250-$300. If I sell 1,000 or 100,000 or a million I would clearly be in the billion mark before I anticipated.”

Tip took his idea a step further, imagining the 3D concept as a feature in cars.

“If, instead of playing a CD or iPad in your car, you can actually put a hologram on your dashboard and watch me run across,” he laughed before adjusting his position. “It may not work well for driving. It may have to be in the back seat.”

In the present day, the hologram captured the imagination of touring groups such as TLC, the Jacksons and Dr. Dre, who also attempted to clarify a Tupac hologram tour, but neglected to rule out an encore.

Despite his talk of a hologram takeover, T.I. conceded that there is nothing like the real thing.

“The hologram will be same thing every time,” he said. “The live show is a different as I choose to make it. I don’t think a hologram will ever be able to duplicate that experience.”

Aside from T.I.’s playful comments, B.o.B gave fans a taste of his new album, Strange Clouds, playing choice songs for listeners. To watch the full four-part interview go to V-103. –Erik Parker, CBS Local
