DMX has a bone to pick with Drake. The two-fisted Yonkers rapper, who is not one to mince words, blasted the crooning YMCMB rhymer for his involvement in an upcoming Aaliyah album.

After comparing Drake’s vocal tone and style to a washing machine, in an interview with RapFix, DMX explained why he dislikes the Toronto rapper. He pointed to the upcoming posthumous album from the late R&B princess Aaliyah, a project that has been the subject of much debate due to Drake’s involvement as an executive producer.

“I’m kinda feelin’ some kinda way about the fact that you been commissioned, that you been blessed, you’ve been given the opportunity to do the Aaliyah album, yet you don’t include anybody that she worked with personally,” DMX said. “How do you disregard what this woman did? What this beautiful angel did and say, ‘Oh OK, I’m gonna take it for myself because I’m hot right now and I’m feelin’ myself.’ How do you just go there with it? Your b***s ain’t that big, son.”

Indeed, the album’s first single “Enough Said,” which featured Drizzy, received a strongly divided reaction from longtime Aaliyah fans and music critics. But for DMX, who had recorded with Aaliyah and co-starred with the singer in the 2000 film Romeo Must Die, it’s personal. He balked at the Aaliyah project for not including any of Aaliyah’s past collaborators (Both Missy Elliott and Timbaland declined to be part of the album).

While DMX pull any punches when it came to his opposition to Drake’s involvement, Ne-Yo recently praised Drake for taking on the singer’s legacy.

“I have to applaud Drake for even taking on something like that,” Ne-Yo told Hot 93.7/Hartford backstage at the MTV’s Video Music Awards. “[Drake] is like ‘I have a love and appreciation for what Aaliyah was and what she did, and I’m gonna do this. I’ve gotta applaud him for that. Hats off to Drake for that.” —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
