Skylar Grey’s new song is bound to get stuck in your head and she knows it.

“To me it’s a straightforward catchy pop song, definitely radio friendly. But, at the same time it doesn’t sound like all the other radio songs out there right now. It sounds weird. It sounds unique and different,” she told CBS Local.

The music video for the first single from her upcoming album Don’t Look Down pokes fun a the state of pop music and the industry itself.

“There is a hidden meaning,” Skylar confessed. “As you can see, I’m not trying to promote sex. That’s not what I’m selling my image as. But with the song, it’s a song about sex. Over the top about sex actually in a sarcastic way.”

Skylar says some people will get it, some people won’t and she doesn’t care either way.

“The song’s going to get stuck in your head if you like it or not, it’s that catchy,” she said. “In the video you see me in a pink polka dot girlie outfit on a pink bicycle and you’ll never see me like that again. It’s just this song, it brought this weird side out of me and I wanted to get it out. I’m making fun of all that stuff. Making fun of how everything has to be over-sexualized it seems these days especially in pop music.”

Directed by Isaac Rentz, “C’mon Let Me Ride” was filmed in a trailer park by Detroit and things got crazy with extras portraying hicks and bimbos.

While Skylar will no doubt forget the video shoot, she doesn’t have to as she keeps a memento on her mantle.

“I get to ride this bicycle around that has deer antlers attached to the handlebars and I was thinking, ‘Gosh instead of an actual head above a fireplace, what about putting this bicycle on the fireplace?’ So that’s what I’m doing,” she said. “I kept that from the set. So now I have antlers above my fireplace in a totally untraditional way.”

The song started in Los Angeles with Alex Da Kidd and Mike Del Rio before they brought it to Detroit to play it for Eminem.

“The first thing he said was, ‘That’s really catchy.’ I asked him to get on the song and he had some suggestions for me and I went back in and reworked my parts and he put his part on it,” she said. “It was really collaborative the way that the song went down. There was a lot of back and forth and I’m really happy with the way it turned out.”

A tongue-in-cheek song, Skylar says it doesn’t represent who she is as an artist.

“I’m really excited about the video because I really do think that it showcases the sarcasm in the song. It really drives that home,” she said. “I also think that when people hear the song in the context of the whole album it will make a lot more sense as to who I am as an artist. I really hope people take the extra step and buy the whole album and not just the single.”
