The stakes have been raised in Ryan Leslie‘s million-dollar reward debacle. The singer, who was previously ordered to pay $1 million for his recovered laptop, will have to add an interest payment to the pot.
He will now have to pay an extra 180K for the interest the money would have accumulated since the laptop has been returned, according to reports.
In 2010, singer/songwriter Ryan Leslie posted a $20,000 reward for his lost laptop that was left behind on a trip to Germany. When he found no takers, he later increased the bounty to $1 million.
Leslie particularly was interested in recovering several unreleased tracks he was sure would be turned into hits, which he says were not returned or accessible when the computer was returned.
As CBS Local previously reported, a 54-year-old auto repair shop owner returned the computer, but he didn’t receive what he said was promised.
In November of 2012, a judge ordered Leslie to pay up the full $1 million reward. While Leslie contested the judge’s decision, he later explained how the legal woes inspired his music.
“Black Mozart starts at the moment that I walk out of the courthouse,” he told VIBE of his new album. “I wrote the entire album in the two days following the verdict, so the album is written and will be recorded in layers with the strings, horns and potentially a choir in the royal conservatory in Vienna, Austria, one of the homes of some of the most classical music ever written.”
