Trey Songz is not afraid of hitting the big screen. With a major role in the updated Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise hitting theaters Friday (January 4), he is confident that audiences will be–pun alert!–sleighed.

Trey hopes to give himself time to grow as an actor by playing the role of one of the doomed souls in a famous slasher franchise.

“I think the beautiful aspect of my character is that he’s a very likable guy,” he told MySpace. “He’s not a character that has too many layers of depth where I had to really remove myself, because as an artist that’s making an album and being pulled away from that to go shoot a movie, a horror film at that, I still had a studio in my room.”

When it comes to the gratuitous and rampant killings, every fan of the franchise wants to know how long Songz will survive. He has a rule for that.

“As long as I don’t die when the credits are rolling [laughs]…But Texas Chainsaw is a great franchise, iconic, legendary. To be a part of it, actually, after seeing the first one and the way that this script was written, it’s the one that pays homage to the first one the best so I think I made the right decision.”

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre hit theaters in 1974. There has been several sequels (as well as a prequel) since its arrival.

In October 2012, it was announced that Songz had joined the cast of the upcoming romantic comedy Baggage Claim, a Fox Searchlight film based on the novel written by David E. Talbert.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Trey will be featured in the romantic comedy about a 35-year-old flight attendant driven to find a fiancé to take to her sister’s engagement party. Paula Patton is set for the starring role of Baggage Claim, which will also feature Adam Brody, Derek Luke, Montana Moore, Tay Diggs, Djimon Hounsou.
