Frank Ocean is not home simply polishing his newly acquired GRAMMY awards. He’s already deep into his next album and working through his tour plans.
Ocean’s debut album Channel Orange showed the singer/songwriter’s ability to color outside the lines. While fans wonder if his next set will be more of the same, Ocean is already answering that question in the studio.
“I’m 10, 11 songs into this next thing,” Ocean told BBC Radio 1. “It’s another cohesive thing, bordering on a concept record again.”
His new album, he explained, will be a continuation of Orange.
“At the end of Channel Orange, there’s ‘Golden Girl’ and it’s this beach scene, and I kinda wanted to extend that feel into the next record all together, kinda make it that theme,” he said. “I’m going to Bora Bora when I get back [to the U.S.]. I put a studio in my house. I’m gonna take it all to the beach and work for a few weeks.”
He plans to collaborate with Danger Mouse as well as Australian band Tame Impala. As for tours, Ocean is thinking about hitting the road soon. But he won’t stay on tour for as long as some would like.
“I plan on getting out this summer,” he said. “Pharrell was telling me, ‘You should tour for a couple of years. Say to hell with it.’ I said I can’t go out for two years straight, I have to record and make more music.”
Ocean recently grabbed two GRAMMYs for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his part on Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s “No Church in the Wild.”
