After lighting up the GRAMMYs with a performance of “Adorn,” Miguel keeps the flame burning with the video for “Candle in the Sun,” the latest single from Kaleidoscope Dreams.
The black and white clip is rich with religious imagery (crosses, an open bible, a woman worshipping in church, a lady wearing a burka) that lives alongside pictures of guns, the homeless, and the Jersey Shoreline decimated by Hurricane Sandy.
The images punctuate the song’s message, which calls on man to look to each other for help and compassion.
“Is there a God,” he sings, “Is he watching, is she watching/ Are they watching now…”
“Candle in the Sun” takes center stage after Miguel, along with Wiz Khalifa, blazed the GRAMMYs with a performance of “Adorn,”
Miguel was nominated for five GRAMMYs, including Song of the Year, which he lost to fun.’s “We Are Young;” Best R&B Performance, which was taken by Usher’s “Climax;” and Urban Contemporary Album, which went to Frank Ocean for Channel Orange. He landed his first GRAMMY win for Best R&B Song with “Adorn.”
The singer recently explained his writing process and the inspiration.
“It is one of those powerful words that is barely used,” he told Radio.com. “But this idea of bestowing your love upon someone, kind of laying it on them, I don’t know, I just kind of like that.”
